Lodz Poland - Polish Capital of 19th century Textile Industry
In 1820 Łódź was officialy designated as Poland’s new industrial centre for weaving and textile industry and by 1870 the town has grown into the biggest production “hub” in the Russian Empire. Population was made up Poles, Germans and Jews.
Todays’ Łódź (second largest town in Poland) offers tourist attractions focused on the 19th century industry (manufacture buildings, grand residences of their owners and workers settlements as well as cinema).
National Film School is based in Łódź and some attractions are associated with cinema: walk of fame, animation studios.
Day 1
Transfer from Warsaw airport/railway station to your hotel.
Overnight in Warsaw.
Day 2
Transfer to Łódź (approx. 1.5h by car)
We start from Manufaktura, a large complex of revitalized old factory buildings turned in to a shopping centre, cinema, theatre and cafeterias. Next to the compound is a palace, or rather a large family residence of the owner – Israel Poznański – who between 1876 and 1878 built the weaving mills, offices, workers’ homes a hospital and school.
Moving on from there is the “Dętka”, an underground water collector which now is a museum. From there we move to Piotrkowska Street, a favourite place for locals and naturally tourists. It is 4 km long street (half of which is reserved for pedestrians). Some spectacular buildings from 19th century and a peek into side backyards or many shops are among the things to see. Part of Piotrkowska Street has been dedicated to Polish film stars and important personalities – thus we have here a Walk of Fame.
At the end of the walk (or a pedicab ride) there is a museum of the textile and weaving industry which is a must see for tourist.

Day 3
The third day continues with the industrial theme. Księży Młyn is another awesome complex of textile and weaving. This factory was built by Scheibler and at the time (late 19th century) was the largest in Europe. The factory has been turned into loft apartments and a hotel. Next to it is the workers housing complex and the residence of antoher of Łódź’s tycoons – Edward Herbst. The Film Museum is a walk from Księży Młyn. This is worth seeing as some exhibits are from the beginning of 20th century.
Return to Warsaw.

Day 4
After breakfast at your hotel you will be transferred to airport/railway station for your departure.
