Daffodils 19 APRIL 1943 Warsaw Ghetto Uprising

April is About Remembering in Warsaw.

Daffodils symbolize new beginning, renewal, vitality and memory.

Marek Edelman, (d. 2009) the last of the heroic leaders of Warsaw Ghetto Uprising (19th April – mid May 1943), received a bouquet of yellow daffodils from an anonymous sender every 19th of April.

He would lay them at the Monument to the Ghetto Heroes in Warsaw in tribute to the dead.

The POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews began this “United in Memory” educational campaign seven years ago.

Over 1 500 volunteers will be giving away yellow paper daffodils on the streets of Warsaw to show that we remember and unite in memory. Similar actions will be in schools and public libraries throughout Poland.
